Hydrafacial

The skin is the largest bodily organ and therefore it needs to be protected from damage. The skin faces problems with sun, toxin and stress damage which can reduce the health of the skin and also ages the skin. A hydrafacial is a non-invasive procedure that cleans the skin of any imperfections and creates healthier skin. The hydrafacial is a skin treatment that uses Vortex technology to restore an even tone and texture to the skin. This treatment uses multiple steps to cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate the skin naturally. After a hydrafacial, patients will see an improvement in their complexion and their skin will have a youthful appearance. Here at The Good Skin Clinic we recommend a hydrafacial to achieve excellent skin without the skin irritation usually associated with skincare treatments.

Benefits of Hydrafacial

The hydrafacial treatment has several benefits to the skin due to the procedure’s multi-steps. The hydrafacial treats a variety of skin conditions such as fine lines, wrinkles, brown spots, enlarged pores, and acne. Acne is commonly treated with a hydrafacial as it effectively reduces the appearance of breakouts and scarring. The treatment is used to unclog the pores which creates a smooth skin tone and texture. This can also treat oily skin as the pores are cleaned, refreshing congested skin. A hydrafacial can target concerns on the face, neck, decolletage and back as other common areas of the body affected by skin conditions.

Patients will have fresh, glowing skin due to this procedure stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. As the skin ages it faces a lack of firmness and an increase in sagging skin. The increase in elastin produced by the hydrafacial will tighten the skin, creating a youthful looking complexion. This treatment is known to increase patient confidence with the look and feel of their skin. An added benefit of the procedure is that it is suited to all ages and skin types, so it can target youth combating acne and adults trying to reduce the visibility of wrinkles.

What to expect

Before the procedure, we recommend that you avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for two weeks prior to your treatment. Your treatment should be performed after your broken skin, cold sore or wounds have healed. Patients should not exfoliate for the 24 hours before the procedure. Patients should time their procedure so that it does not coincide with chemical peels or laser treatments for two weeks before the procedure. Do not shave your face the day of your treatment.

The Hydrafacial is made up of three steps: CLEANSE + PEEL, EXTRACT + HYDRATE and FUSE + PROTECT. Firstly the treatment begins with cleansing of the skin, removing dead skin cells and sebum to peel the skin of imperfections. The hydrafacial device tip has a mixture of exfoliating ingredients applied to it. These ingredients will unclog the pores and peel the skin debris and reveal a new layer of skin. The device tip is changed to the hydrapeel tip which vacuums the skin using vortex suction, removing the skin debris. A serum is applied to the skin which will hydrate and refresh it. The serum is made up of antioxidants and peptides that are vortex-fused to protect and moisturise the skin. This serum can be customised to your individual skin needs. The procedure is completed in 30 to 45 minutes. Discomfort is minimal and patients instead feel a slight tug during the procedure.

The hydrafacial can be combined with LED therapy or dermal fillers to rejuvenate the skin further.

Results & aftercare for Hydrafacial

After your first treatment you will see improvement to your skin. You can expect your skin to be hydrated and have a healthy glow after the hydrafacial. Your skin will be softer, smoother and cleaner than before the treatment. A hydrafacial reduces the visibility of fine lines, wrinkles, brown spots, oily skin and pore congestion. Hydration can occur for up to a week after the procedure. Several Hydrafacial appointments are needed to maintain and create the best results. We recommend a treatment every four to six weeks to gradually improve your skin. Patients can return to their daily routine after the procedure.

You should create and follow a skin care routine to ensure your results are maintained. After the procedure your skin will remain red/pink for around 30 minutes to an hour however this will settle the same day as the procedure. Patients can experience the flaking of their skin after the treatment as the old skin cells are shedded and the healthy skin emerges. Patients can feel tightness however this will subside in a few days post-treatment. NP Sheriden Dobson will create a post-treatment aftercare plan to ensure you take the correct steps to maintain your recovery and results.

Risks & complications

This treatment causes no major side effects however there are still some risks and complications associated with a hydrafacial that should be considered. Patients may experience red skin after their treatment which will subside over the day. The treatment is not painful. We recommend waiting a day before using any products on your skin, so that the skin can absorb the serum that was applied to the skin during the hydrafacial. It is important to discuss any allergies you may have as the products used can sometimes cause an allergic reaction.

  • After the procedure patients can experience:
  • Broken veins
  • Uneven skin
  • Dark pigmentation
  • Acne
  • Skin thinning

Those who are pregnant should discuss with our clinic before having the treatment. Patients will be advised to wait until rashes, open wounds, cold sores and broken skin heal as a means to prevent infection from occurring. After the procedure patients can experience a breakout however this is a common side effect of the skin debris being lifted from the deeper layers of the skin. The debris sitting on the top layers of the skin will cause a breakout however, after exfoliating, the debris will be removed and the breakout will settle.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often can a patient have a Hydrafacial treatment?

For the best results, we recommend patients have a hydrafacial treatment every 4 weeks to maintain and improve their results. Our team will determine the exact amount of treatments needed for your individual needs by comparing your health and lifestyle.

Am I an ideal candidate for the Hydrafacial?

The hydrafacial is suited to all skin types, across all ages. The treatment can also target sensitive skin to restore the health of the skin. Those with dry, oily or acne-prone skin are recommended hydrafacial to hydrate and cleanse the skin of blemishes and congestion. Those looking to unclog their pores and cleanse their skin will see excellent results from the hydrafacial.

What is the difference between the Hydrafacial and Microdermabrasion?

A hydrafacial delivers the same level of results without irritating the skin. Microdermabrasion uses a device to remove the dead skin cells without hydrating the skin like the hydrafacial. Microdermabrasion uses crystal technology to exfoliate the skin creating a slight irritation to the skin. A hydrafacial removes the dead skin softly by vacuuming the pore debris and then hydrates the skin. A hydrafacial is gentler than microdermabrasion as it also hydrates the skin with a serum at the same time as removing dead skin.
